Biographical Sketch

Dr. Xumei Chen is a visiting scholar of the Department of Transportation Studies, Texas Southern University and an associate Professor of the Department of Traffic Engineering, Beijing Jiaotong University (BJTU). She received her Ph.D. degree in Transportation Planning and Management from Southwest Jiaotong University in 2001, Master of Engineering Degree in Transportation Vehicles and Application Engineering from Xinjiang Agricultural University in 1998, and Bachelor of Engineering Degree in Mechanical Design and Manufacture from Xinjiang Agricultural University in 1995.

Research Interests

Her research interests and expertise involve Intelligent Transportation System Related Technologies and Applications, Travel Demand Forecasting and Simulation, Network Planning of Urban Rail Transit, Integrated Transit System Management and Operation, and Industry Policy of Transportation. During the past 4 years, Dr. Chen has managed or participated 16 research projects at BJTU, which were sponsored by a variety of national and municipality level agencies such as National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), Postdoctoral Science Foundation of China, Beijing Jiaotong University, Beijing Municipality Science and Technology Commission, Ministry of Science and Technology of China, Beijing Municipal Committee of Communication, Beijing Transportation Development and Research Center, etc. She is the author or co-author of over 30 scientific papers, and 7 research reports.

Dr. Chen has conducted a lot of innovative research work and accumulated tremendous research and working experiences on technological application and development of intelligent transportation system, on the management and planning of urban transportation, and on the large-scaled transportation network simulation and improvement etc.

Teaching Interest

She has opened a series of courses for undergraduate and graduate students in terms of Traffic Flow Theory, Intelligent Transport System, Urban Rail Transit System Planning and Design, and Transportation Facilities etc.
