SYNTHESIS REPORT ON CHANGEABLE MESSAGE SIGNS THAT DEPICT SYMBOLS AND WORDS

Research Objective:

The objectives of the project are to evaluate the effectiveness and driver response to various Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) signs, especially work zone symbol and word messages, displayed on these changeable message signs (CMS). The project will also identify areas of compliance and/or non-compliance with specific provisions of the MUTCD on Uniform Traffic Control Devices. (MUTCD).

Task 3 Evaluation of effectiveness of CMS

Task 4 Evaluation of CMS vs MUTCD

Task 6 Recommendation of MUTCD and identification of research needs

Task 6.1 Recommend for MUTCD
