Student enrollment in each degree program and program option under review has appropriate enrollment that is tracked and verified. They have appropriate enrollment as defined by the State of Texas and the University. The following chart has the data related to the programs under review.
Enrollment in the Aviation Science Management Program averaged about 60 students per academic year from 2013-2019. The total enrollments for this period (2016-2019) were approximately 300 students. Currently, the Aviation Science Management Program has one hundred ten students in the program, with Fall 2019 being the largest freshman class in five years. To continue the growth of the program, long and short-term goals are being revised to attract, recruit, and retain students to the program; with assistance from the Aviation Advisory Board.
The 2019 enrollment is 110 students, up from the last year’s enrollment of 100 students.
The following tables show the GPA and retention rates of the programs under review compared to the University in General and the College of Science, Engineering and Technology. The table shows the Retention rates (%) of both full-time and part-time first-time freshmen into the sophomore year for the Aviation Science Management and Industrial Technology programs, compared appropriately with the University’s and College’s retention rates for five consecutive academic years.

Please note from the table above that the students in BS in Aviation Science Management performed above the GPA average for the College of Science, Engineering and Technology and the University in general for the years 2013 through 2018.
The Aviation Science Management Program recently completed a survey of its graduates. The follow-up survey includes a question to investigate the satisfaction of graduates with how adequately the program prepared them academically. The question was:
“I am satisfied with the academic preparation I received through Texas Southern University Aviation program towards B.S. degree in Aviation Science Management.”
This was to be answered with these options: strongly agree, agree, somewhat agree, neither agree or disagree, somewhat disagree, disagree, and strongly agree. The figure below shows the results attained from the survey which revealed that 81% of the alumni were satisfied with the academic preparation they received through their degree in Aviation Science Management. These 81% constitutes those that strongly agreed and those that simply agreed. One of the goals of the aviation program is to prepare graduates and equip them with the skills necessary to function effectively and in technical and managerial positions.
Within the survey conducted, a question to investigate the work responsibilities for those alumni working in the industry was asked. The question was,
“What are the majority of your work/position responsibilities considered?”
the figure below shows the results from the respondents.
Technical and managerial work responsibilities yielded the highest percentages in all the options. Technical yielded 40% and Managerial yielded 37%.
